The most moving encounter in Africa.
Trekking begins early, with a briefing and a walk into dense montane forest behind trackers who have been with the family since dawn. The climb can be steep and the mud is part of it. Then the forest opens, and a silverback is a few metres away, entirely unbothered by your presence.
Permits, guides and forest days
Permits are strictly limited and we secure them well ahead of your travel dates. Groups are small, time with the family is capped at one hour, and every permit funds the conservation work that has brought mountain gorilla numbers back from the brink. We pair Bwindi or the Virungas with chimpanzee tracking or the calm of a lake for a slower second half.
