Serengeti National Park is one of Africa's most famous safari destinations, known for the Great Migration and the herds of wildebeest and zebra that move across the plains in search of fresh grazing. The Serengeti's enormous size and varied habitats, from open grasslands to river systems and rocky kopjes, also provide a home to large prides of lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants and buffalo.

The Great Migration
Over 1.2 million wildebeest and 300,000 zebra and gazelle follow the rains in a continuous circuit through the Serengeti ecosystem. Calving takes place on the short-grass plains of the south from January to March; by June the columns push north and west, gathering at the Grumeti and, later, the Mara River crossings.

Serengeti experiences
Iconic interactions between predator and prey play out on the Serengeti's plains. On game drives, watch thousands of wildebeest, zebra and other plains game grazing together. Where is Serengeti National Park?

The climate is subtropical with distinct wet and dry seasons. The dry season runs June to October with cooler temperatures and less rainfall; the rainy season is November to May. Nights can be cool, so warm layers are recommended.
